Experimental pharmacotherapy of corneal bacterial lesions. Purpose. To study the influence of biopeloids on local immunity, on changing and reparative processes experimentally and to determine their value for bacterial keratitis treatment. Results and Novelty. Eye drops and eye ointment combining with gentamicin are determined to have more evident anti-edema and anti-inflammatory effect in treatment of bacterial keratitis (BK), to fasten regeneration processes, and to prevent the development of rough corneal opacity as compared with gentamicin monotherapy (control). They are shown cytologically to have the best effect on a cellular component of local immunity (leukocyte formula, leukocyte subtypes relation, phagosytosis intensity). They help to normalize the activity of LDH enzyme, catalase, alkaline and acid photophatase in lachrymal fluid (LF) and blood serum, and enhance lysozyme activity in LF. The enhancement of bactericidal action of gentamicin ointment (potentiating effect) if combining with biopeloids is identified.
