Diagnostic criteria for "classical" and "variant" HCL, including clinical, hematological signs, results of morphological, cytomorphological and histomorphological investigations are discussed. One of the obligatory steps of HCL diagnostics is immunocytochemical investigation of tumor cells, which in 92,1% of the cases enables successful differentiation from neoplastic B-cells of other origins. Glycosylic structure of the membranes of blood cells and cells of the involved tissues showed high expression of the Gal?1?3GalNАc?1 residues (Thomsen-Friedenreich antigen). Abnormal blood levels of TNF, TGF?1, IL-2 and their secretion by mononuclear cells of peripheral blood and mononuclear cells of the spleen in HCL patients were detected, which may appear significant factors for disease course prognosis.
