It focused on those aspects of development that determine the international dimension of functioning of Ukrainian scientific system, in particular problems of using of the EU indicators of R&D and innovation development, problem analysis of R&D personnel dynamics, foreign funding for R&D, protection of intellectual property rights, establishment and operation of networks and some others. An important component of the research was the relevant calculations, which was an important step in testing the proposed theoretical positions. The results indicate that the gap between Ukraine and the European developed countries is not reducing. In general, Ukraine's position in the global R&D system is deteriorating, although there are positive trends in several areas. Another feature that characterizes the current state of Ukrainian R&D system is its vulnerability to crisis, which had a significant negative impact on the development of science during 2008-2010.
