Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology popup.description2 For the first time shown that the integral effect of exogenous nitrogen oxides combined with low doses of ionizing radiation in the development of free radical pathology caused mainly nitrogen oxides. Prolonged inhalation intake of nitrogen oxides compared with the effect of low doses of radiation caused significant changes in metabolism of animal tissue: accumulation of oxidation products (malonic dyaldehid), deregulation of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase), impaired generation of superoxide radical and increase of genetic damage that determines its leading role in development of genomic instability. The development of oxidative stress, increased genotoxic effect and formation of genome instability in cells with the depleted potential of stem marrow hematopoiesis indicate increased carcinogenic risk caused by combined action of nitric oxide and ionizing radiation.
