Fast automatic procedure for forecasting compression efficiency in the neighborhood of optimal operation point and setting compression parameters in multichannel systems of remote sensing image forming is designed. Methods and algorithms of multichannel data compression using variance stabilizing transforms and 3D coders are proposed. The results of testing for images of different sensors are presented and analyzed. Advantages of using 3D coders in combination with variance stabilizing transforms that take into account automatically obtained estimates of noise characteristics are demonstrated.
