Purpose - fire safety of turbine island number 1 and the stability of floor constructions in case of fire caused by hydrogen escape. Research methods - statistical analysis of turbine island number 1 fire safety in the fire with the hydrogen escape and modeling of fire with determining the temperature of the metal floor constructions. Hydrogen, which is used for cooling is the most dangerous factor in a nuclear power plant turbine island. The results of fire hazard exploration show that hydrogen causes the main fire load. In 1993 a number of measures for metal structures fire resistance improving was made. It is shown that fire-proofing compositions coated on metal structures significantly increase their stability. This is confirmed by mathematical modeling of the hydrogen combustion. Based on these data, we can recommend increasing of emergency hydrogen splitting time from 20 seconds to more.
