Objective: To study the publishing library for the period from 1940 to 1989 , the definition of the main types of publications. Research objectives : to reveal the typological aspects of publishing of Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv in 1940 - 1989 's, to examine its scientific achievements , the influence of historical factors on the theme and typology of publications library. Research Methods The specificity of the object of study and are based on the reliability of the sources of historical knowledge - historical ( realized within the basic methodological principles of historicism , objectivity, comprehensiveness ), diachronic , bibliographic descriptive , structural and typological (based on inter-pretation of typological characteristics editions) , systematic , problem- thematic, stylistic genre . The study laid historical and typological principle which allows to differentiate publications library Soviet period in the general historical context of the institution. Results: The main types of publications prepared for publication librarians in the 1940 - 1989, supplemented with historical and bibliographic database of library books that came out during this period. An electronic resource that contains biohram's persons involved in the editorial and publishing process . It traces the formation of the specific publishing repertoire from 1940 to 1989 , depending on the ideological constraints of contemporary totalitarian system. These research results will contribute to the formation and history of the formation of a Ukrainian typography within a research institution for a specified period.
