The main purpose of the information system "Forests of Ukraine" is: - Development of a new information model of database "Forests of Ukraine", which corresponds to the actual and future requirements of Ukraine forestry, as well as the current level of development of information technologies; - Increasing the accuracy, reliability and informational content of materials of forest management as a basis for forest management; - Improving the efficiency of periodic updating and processing of forest inventory information; - Increasing the efficiency of management solutions due to a significant reduction terms of the preparation of requested documents; - Switching to paperless technology of obtaining information, which reduces its cost; - Increase openness and transparency of the subjects of forestry at all levels; - Enabling authorized access to the forest inventory information from ministries and departments. Methods: - Study of existing streams of information about forests, followed by analysis on its completeness and accuracy; a study on the need for relevant information forestry specialists at various levels; - Development of software and user guides for forest inventory, forest management at the enterprise level and at the regional and state level. - Development of recommendations for field GIS usage in forestry. As a result of research were studied workflow of forestry enterprises, forest inventory expedition and regional department of forestry and hunting. A study on the need of forestry specialists at various levels for relevant information and optimized workflow scheme was created. Conducted development and testing workplaces for professionals in different levels of management, created the user manual. Tested the field GIS, which are now being used in forestry in Ukraine (Digitals, FieldMap, ULIS). Developed several software components for ULIS. Issued recommendations for the use of field GIS in forestry. For the first time in Ukraine, an information system that operates at all levels of forestry and has a single data model and wide functionality was created.
