The aim is to develop the theoretical foundations of building a system of financial intermediaries, improving scientific and methodological approaches and develop practical recommendations for improving the functioning of the various types of financial intermediaries in terms of the domestic market. When solving a scientific research tasks used set of scientific and special methods of research: methods of abstraction, generalization, induction, deduction, analysis, synthesis, analysis of variance and logistic regression, and others. The most significant results obtained from scientific novelty of the research include: improved: the essential characteristics of the concept of financial intermediation; financial intermediaries as financial institutions; system of financial intermediaries; classification of financial intermediaries; structural-functional model of the system of state regulation and supervision of non-bank financial intermediaries; a list of specific functions of non-bank financial institutions. Further developments: periodization stages of development of financial intermediation of banks, scientific and methodical approach to the optimization of the investment portfolio of financial intermediaries, scientific and methodological principles of risk management of financial intermediaries, methodical approach to the rating of financial intermediaries, scientific approach to the differentiation of the modes of state supervision over the activities of financial intermediaries and etc. . The practical significance of the results is to use the theoretical findings and practical recommendations for improving the functioning of the various types of financial intermediaries in modern conditions.
