Objective: to improve medico-psychological rehabilitation of children with DS at an early age on the basis of developing some measures for interdisciplinary assistance to children and their families in the system of early intervention (EI). Methods: clinico-anamnestic, medical documentation analysis, participant observation, and psychodiagnostic. Results: an algorithm for designing rehabilitation programs in the system of EI for children with DS has been worked out. The state of their somatic and neurologic health has been estimated as a result of their profound physical examination and observation. The structure and level of psychomotor development of children with DS have also been established in our study. Psychological testing of their parents has revealed some peculiarities in the child - parent relations, quality of life and social functioning of families of that kind. High efficiency of the set of EI differential programs has also been demonstrated. Novelty: a novel complex of EI programs has been worked out for medico – psychological rehabilitation of children with DS, aged 0-13 yr., taking into consideration their health features, level and structure of psychomotor development, psychological peculiarities of their parents, and quality of the child – parent relations. The impact of clinical, individual psychological and psychosocial factors on the effectiveness of the developed programs has been established. Effectiveness: The worked out technology for medico – psychological support of families, bringing up children with DS at an early age, makes it possible to prevent manifestation of secondary complications in their somatic status as well as deviations in their development. The technology is capable of providing maximal realization of potentials to increase the level of social adaptation of the family.
