Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology popup.description2 Lactoferrin participation in the formation of the molecular and pro/antioxidant profile of breast cancer cells has been proven. It was found that substantial inhibition of lactoferrin expression observed in receptor negative breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-468) is correlated with a reduction of adhesion and increase of invasive characteristics. Negative feed-back control of lactoferrin presence and indices of the pro/antioxidant cell defence of breast cancer cells (ROS level, "free iron", NO generation rate, lipid peroxidation and mitochondrial transmembrane potential) was found. Received data is a fundamental basis for the study of the mechanisms of exogenous lactoferrin modifying action on hormone-dependent and receptor -negative human breast cancer cells.
