Scientific report: 19 p., 4 tab., 13 sources. The object of research - the system of the primary thistle seed breeding with a high content of silymarin in the seeds (3% more). The purpose of the work - improving the system of breeding primary thistle seed varieties of high level of silymarin type, which would provide support of productive and qualitative characteristics of seed on the correspondent variety level. Research method - individual-family selection, biochemical-analytical. The system of primary seed breeding of milk thistle with high content of silymarin was developed as a result of research performed in 2014-2015, by optimizing the parameters of individual family selection. In the course of work it was analyzed 5 breeding samples with a high content of silymarin according to economically valuable and biochemical characteristics and it was selected breeding sample with the highest rates for further research. The laboratory evaluation of seed 200 parent plants (baskets) and 20 families was conducted. There was determined the divergence of basic quantitative characteristics (weight of seeds in a basket, families productivity) and major quantitative characteristics (silymarin and oil content) as well as parameters of individual-family selection for the effective primary seed breeding of milk thistle varieties of high level of silymarin type. It was selected seed material containing 3,5 ? 4,3% of silymarin for further research. It was produced 0,22 t of milk thistle seeds with high qualitative characteristics.
