The following methods were used for achiving the tasks: a) theoretical ; b) general scientific methods; c) empirical . The results give a complete picture of the theory and practice of special teacher education as a separate branch of pedagogy. Systematized and generalized positions of factual material can become the basis for understanding the specific patterns of special teacher education development, expanding and enriching the content of training programs, issuing books on special pedagogy as well as used in the university educational process for future special educators preparation. Scientific novelty of the results of the study is that for the first time: - The complete analysis of the genesis of special teachers education in the context of historical and educational reforms in Ukraine is conducted; - The interrelation and interdependence of theory and practice of special teachers education as a separate subsystem of higher education is observed; - The activities of educational institutions and their contribution to the development of the organization of special teachers education are discovered and described; - The results of Ukrainian special teachers researches on improving the content of special teachers education and their contribution to the development of the practice of special schools educational process are highlighted; - The features and trends of higher education for special school teachers in Ukraine are observed; - The state of development and innovations in the university educational process at present and the level of educational services provided for future teachers of special schools are discussed; - The new ways and means of pedagogical influence of university teachers and student dynamics as a key factor of professional competence formation at university graduates in the specialty "Special education" are shown.
