A. V. YA. YURYEV NATIONAL ACADEMY OF AGRАRIAN SCIENCES OF UKRAINE popup.description2 Research Object - formation and augmentation of trait collections of soft winter wheat, winter rye and winter triticale by frost- and winter-hardiness. Research Purpose - to identify patterns, parameters of trait collection formation and to develop a methodology of their formation, to augment winter crop collections (soft wheat, rye, triticale) by winter hardiness and major valuable economic features, form a catalogue of winter triticale accessions. Research Methods - field, vegetation and laboratory experiments using low temperature effects under controlled conditions, mathematical and statistical methods. The studies identified sources of high winter hardiness among varieties and breeding material (7-9 points) of winter cereals: altogether 117 soft winter wheat accessions, including 45 in 2015, 50 winter triticale accessions, including 8 varieties in 2015. Special trait collections of soft winter wheat (257 accessions) and winter triticale (119 accessions) by frost- and winter-hardiness were augmented. 29 soft winter wheat varieties and lines with high lodging resistance (7.5-9.0 points) were selected. 35 accessions with high yield capacity of 8.0-9.2 t/ha (higher than that in standard variety 'Podolyanka' by 0.6-1.8 t/ha) were selected. Valuable winter rye accessions combining high yield capacity with high frost resistance were highlighted and registered in the NCPGRU. A trait collection of winter rye varieties by frost- and winter-hardiness comprising 57 accessions from 4 countries was formed and registered in the NCPGRU in 2015. "Technique of Formation of Trait Collections of Winter Cereals by Winter Hardiness" was developed and published (2013). "Catalogue of Winter Triticale Accessions", which characterizes 76 winter triticale varieties by frost- and winter-hardiness, was formed and published. Guidelines "Classification of Winter Cereal Varieties by Frost- and Winter-Hardiness" were developed and published. Original breeding lines of soft winter wheat combining high winter hardiness (7.0-7.5 points) with high lodging resistance, yield capacity and grain quality were submitted for examination to the NCPGRU. The novelty lies in the development of a technique of formation of trait collections of winter cereals by frost- and winter-hardiness, selection of winter cereal varieties-standards of frost hardiness, creation of the trait collection of winter rye varieties by frost- and winter-hardiness. The system for determining winter hardiness of soft and hard winter wheat, winter rye, winter triticale, winter barley was further developed by generating a consistent scale of assessment of hardiness for all winter cereals. As a result of the introduction of winter-hardy accessions from the special trait collection, co-authors created 8 soft winter wheat varieties with high winter hardiness, yield capacity and quality and 1 winter rye hybrid and submitted them to the state variety trials. Soft winter wheat varieties 'Kalita' and 'Statna' were entered in the State Register of Plant Varieties suitable for dissemination in Ukraine in 2011; hard winter wheat variety 'Shulyndinka' and winter rye hybrid 'Yupiter' - in 2013. According to the agreement with the Ukrainian Institute of Plant Variety Examination, frost- and winter-hardiness of winter crop varieties was evaluated (in total 741 accessions, including 198 - in 2015). Regimens of freezing winter crop varieties and lines were improved preliminary analysis of varieties-standards, which enables reducing electricity consumption by 30%. Scope of Application of Scientific Results - research and breeding institutions, agrarian higher education institutions, agricultural оrganizations of different ownership forms. The research results were reported at international and national scientific conferences, seminars and meetings. 45 scientific papers were published Product Description popup.authors Усова Зоя Василівна Ярош Андрій Васильович popup.nrat_date 2020-04-02 Close
