A. V. YA. YURYEV NATIONAL ACADEMY OF AGRАRIAN SCIENCES OF UKRAINE popup.description2 Study Object - sunflower breeding (self-pollinated lines, simple and three-line hybrids). Study Purpose - to develop theoretical foundations of genetic and statistical trends of creation of starting material, rationale for the use of these trends in breeding by creating hybrids that combine high productivity, resistance to major pathogens, quality of raw materials with the maximum use of heterosis effect due to genetically determinated level of adaptation to agro-ecological conditions. Study Methods - field, laboratory and statistical. Results of the Theoretical Studies - on the basis of the fundamental research aimed at development of a breeding technology, theory and methods of its practical application, conceptually new starting material was created and evaluated for sunflower breeding with high productivity, oil content, resistance to major pathogens, to herbicides, with different types of oil, morphological and biochemical markers, adapted to close planting as well as for and use in the confectionery industry. Practical Results - 35 hybrids were entered in the State Register of Plant Varieties suitable for dissemination in Ukraine in 2011-2015. 5 hybrids were entered in the Register in 2016. Four hybrids were submitted for registration to the state variety trials in 2016. The study results were published in 39 articles in professional editions; five Ukrainian patents for utility models, 46 copyright certificates on hybrids and lines and 41 patents on plant varieties were received. The laboratory staff in co-authoring issued a manual and a monograph. One doctoral and two candidate theses were defended. Novelty - limits of manifestations of heterosis effect were established, depending on weather-climatic conditions and various density gradients; relationship between the heterosis level and genetic plasma distance as well as genetic distances between parent components was defined; combining ability of line material of different originwas evaluated, and the variability of its effects was assessed; status of genes that are responsible for large fruit, the high content of ?-, ?-, ?- and ?-tocopherols was investigated; principles of use the heterosis effect in breeding for heat resistance were formulated; mechanisms of resistance to imidazoline and sulfonylurea herbicides were explored. Effectiveness of Implementation - 797 license agreements for the implementation of sunflower parent components were signed. 34,491,946 UAH was realized from the implementation of the study results. Scope of Implementation - Ukrainian agro organizations of different ownership forms, education and research institutions Product Description popup.authors
