Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology popup.description2 The effects of recombinant human beta-defensin-2 (rec-hBD-2) on cytological characteristics, biological features, and malignancy potential of human tumor cells have been studied in cellulo. It has been shown that at nanomolar concentration range this defensin exerts a suppressive effect toward proliferation and viability of tumor cells independent on their histogenesis via cell cycle arrest at G1/S checkpoint, deposphorylation of retinoblastoma protein and inhibition of expression of cyclins D1 and Е, CDK4 , and B-Raf protooncogen. Nanomolar concentrations of rec-hBD-2 significantly suppresses colony-forming activity of tumor cells in semisoft agar and their migration activity . It has been shown that hBD-2 is capable to regulate the balance between epithelial-mesenchymal transition and mesenchymal-epithelial transition (EMT-MET) and to shift such balance dependent on tumor cell type via effects on expression of EMT markers vimentin and E-cadherin; it could be possible that such effects could depend on the spectrum of other inducible beta-defensins in each particular cell line. The data evidence on involovement of hBD-2 in the mechanisms of regulation of tumor cell differentiation. Product Description popup.authors Бойдунік О.І. Геращенко О.О. Глушко Н.В. Погрібний П.В.
