The purpose is the development of the cathode layer composition for positive electrode and non-aqueous electrolyte composition for backup lithium batteries with low self-discharge and operational capability up to minus 25 °C temperature. Methods of investigation are scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, impedance spectroscopy, electrochemical investigations in galvanostatic regime and voltamperometry. Experimental results that ground the optimum composition of the composite layer of the positive electrode based on pyrite and non-aqueous electrolyte composition were obtained. The efficiency of the positive electrode operation for different cathode layer composition with the wide range of the discharge current, temperature and term of storage were investigated; non-aqueous electrolyte composition that provides of the high conductivity in the wide temperature range, low self-discharge after long term storage and enhance specific electrochemical capacity with high current discharge density (4 mA/cm2) were determinated and grounded. Characteristics of the positive electrodes for optimum ratio of the electrode layer composition based on the pyrite and grounded non-aqueous electrolyte composition were determinated. For temperature up to minus 25 °C, 0,5 mA/cm2 discharge current density and 0,6 V finishing potential of discharge, the specific discharge capacity of the electrodes was 540 mA·h/g was shown.
