The object of study is the methods of assessment of environmental quality. Purpose - analysis of methods for integrated assessment of the marine environment, and their application at the regional level. The report describes the main existing group of hydrobiological techniques, integrated biological methods and integral composite index E-TRIX to assess the ecological status of water bodies, which are used in the monitoring studies of Ukraine. We analyzed the principles of methodological approaches and complex HEAT method, which is used by the EU to assess the ecological status of the Baltic Sea. The target concentration of hydrophysical, hydrochemical and hydrobiological components were estimated to be used in the BEAST method (HEAT modification for the Black Sea). The BEAST method was tested in the different areas of the Northwest shelf of the Black Sea, and the assessments of water quality by BEAST and by integral indicator E-TRIX were compared.
