A study of the genetic transformation of plants of seven Artemisia species was conducted. Obtaining and studying of "hairy" roots cultures as potential producers of compounds with medicinal properties was the aim of the work. A. absinthium L., A. ludoviciana L., A. balchanorum L. were introduced in in vitro culture. The optimized method of Agrobacterium rhizogenes-mediated genetic transformation was used. Transformation frequency of Artemisia spp plants was compared. PCR method confirmed the presence of A. rhizogenes rolB gene and selective nptII gene in "hairy" roots. A. annua L., A. vulgaris L., A. dracunculus L., A. tilesii Ledeb "hairy" roots were also used for a comprehensive evaluation of the effect of the transformation on Artemisia spp plants. Transformational frequency, phenotypic and physiological peculiarities of the "hairy" root lines were found to be species- and line-dependent. The ability to accelerate root growth using regulators, modifying of the culture medium composition and by growth in the bioreactor was proven.
