Research methods - dialectical method of scientific knowledge, general (formal-logical, methods of analysis and synthesis, systemic) and specially-legal methods) (historical-legal, formal legal, comparative legal) form methodological basis of applied research. Research of legal regulation of safety and quality of drinking water was carried out by using the dialectical method in combination, the relationship and the development of social and legal factors. The method of analysis was used as the basis of studying scientific achievements of the lawyers on the theme of research and to identify conflicts and gaps in the normative legal acts, regulating relations in the sphere of legal ensuring monitoring of quality and safety of drinking water. Method of synthesis was used to select basic methods of control and supervision over quality and safety of drinking water, find its meaning and essence. Formal legal method helped to clarify the content of legal norms of the relevant legislation and develop proposals for changes and additions. In opinion of authors, the requirements of national standards require a thorough review from the perspective of use and control of their observance according to the standards implemented by Directive 98/83 / EC "On the quality of drinking water intended for human consumption", International recommendations of the WHO "Guide of control of the quality of drinking water" of 1992, National Primary Drinking Water Regulations (Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) and Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL). Requirements for works on water intake of drinking water from underground deposits need separate regulation. Area of application - Obtaining results to be used in solving problems of legal regulation of quality and safety of drinking water law and natural sciences on maintenance of quality and safety of drinking water and water supply. Research was performed within the framework of measures for integration of research and scientific innovation activities of NUBiP of Ukraine towards sustainable rural development, agricultural production, protection of natural resources, efficient use and safety of agricultural and food products, its compliance with national and international standards for 2011-2015 years, according to the Decree of President of Ukraine №5 / 2015 "On Strategy for Sustainable Development "Ukraine - 2020 "which defines the purpose, motion vectors, roadmap, priorities and indicators of adequate defense, socio-economic, institutional, political and legal conditions for establishment and development of Ukraine . Results of scientific research allow implementation of the vector of safety of life and health, protection of vulnerable groups of population, safe environment and access to clean drinking water, safe food and industrial goods.
