Aim of the work: phylogenetic analysis and establishment of mechanisms of evolutionary adaptation of plant viruses. Research methods: methods of virology, molecular biology, phylogeny and statistics. We have collected viruses which are important in quarantine and epidemiological context. Phylogenetic analysis of Ukrainian isolates of Potato virus M, Soybean mosaic virus, Plum pox virus, Watermelon mosaic virus 2, and Zucchini yellow mosaic virus was performed showing their relations to other strains of these viruses. Biologically significant mechanisms of evolutionary adaptation of these viruses have been elucidated. in particular, dN/dS for Ukrainian PVM isolates confirmed directional effect of negative selection on CP gene probably resulting in preservation of genetic stability of virus populations. Similarly, low level of variability was shown for WMV-2 genomes in Ukrainian population, as well as high conservancy of ZYMV populations. Diagnostic test systems have been developed and validated for seed-transmitted viruses of cereal crops: Wheat streak mosaic virus and Barley stripe mosaic virus.
