Aim: The technique is developed to improve the scientific and methodological support of forensic examinations of weapons and traces and the circumstances of its use, increase the efficiency of forensic experts during investigating criminal offenses. Before 2014, grenade launchers were extremely rarely in ammunition trafficking; only small arms were actually used in criminal offenses. Due to that, classifications and techniques of small arms were developed and used for a long time in ballistic. Methods of research: materialistic dialectics (dialectical and formal logic), general scientific and special methods. Novelty - terms and definition, objects classification, scientific, methodological foundations and logical scheme of forensic examination of 40-mm muzzle-loading grenade launchers in order to establish their affiliation to firearms and their fire-fighting capabilities. Field of use - the results of the research will be implemented in the expert practice of the ballistic examination field (including traces and circumstances of weapon use), which is carried out by specialists of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine.
