The aim of research is to detect university culture's features of functioning in Ukrainian intellectual space, first of all the role of universities in the process of European values' affirmation in the 20th - early 21st centuries Research methods: historical-genetic, historical-comparative and method of historical typology. Also modern information technologies exploited. Relational database of symbols and emblems of Ukrainian universities was constructed for analysis of visual sources in DBMS MS Access. The research was focused on the main components of university culture. All components of university culture during the university history in Ukrainian lands were observed with new methodological positions, particularly within the framework of approaches and principles of intellectual and new cultural history. Idea of study of university culture in Ukrainian lands that is unique information structure and interacts with the surrounding environment was realized. Two scientific conferences on university culture's history with the participation of leading Ukrainian and foreign specialists were organized and held. The present problem was discussed on these events. The presence of relations between culture of communication within university space and perceiving them in a wider intellectual space was confirmed. Besides, the availability of channels and mechanisms of communication of the carriers of the university culture and representatives of local society was proved. In addition, it was confirmed that transfer of European values through universities was not one-moment phenomenon, but was a long process. It was carried out with varying intensity, and these values were transformed during their adaptation. The research was conducted on a wide background of cultural processes in the East-Europe lands. Also large massif of sources was used. The obtained results allowed revealing the main stages, consequences, intensity and mechanisms of transfer and adaptation of European values to Ukraine through universities in the 19th - early the 21st centuries.
