Information × Registration Number 0218U006485, 0117U001282 , R & D reports Title Elaboration of principles for controlling phase constitution of ferroelectric liquid crystal materials with short helix pitch. popup.stage_title Head Vashchenko Valeriy Vladimirovich, Registration Date 22-05-2018 Organization State Scientific Institution "Institute for Single Crystals" of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 It is shown that it unnecessarily results in an enhancement of inclination to form anticlinic mesophases when lengthening of terminal alkyl chains of chiral symmetric diesters of p-terphenyl dicarboxylic acid and 1,1,1-trifluoromethyl-2-alkanols occurs which is accompanied with significant increase of helical twisting power but which is not accompanied with substantial decrease of spontaneous polarization; the induction of mesophases with anticlinic ordering is suppressed provided presence of a diester of p-terphenyl dicarboxylic acid and (S)-n-alkyl lactate in a FLC composition; and an ability of the chiral diesters to induce anticlinic ordering decreases by use of non-fluorinated chiral moieties in their molecules. The main results of the project accomplishment are data on effects of different molecular structures of the chiral symmetric diesters on phase composition of the FLC materials with short helix pitch; and obtaining of new chiral dopant, namely diester of p-terphenyl dicarboxylic acid with combined (S)-lactate та (S)-alkan-2-ol moieties that is characterized in helical twisting power (73 ?m-1) in a biphenyl pyrimidine smectic host which helical twisting power is not only the highest for all known p-terphenyl dicarboxylic acid diesters but is not inferior to the best world analogues.
