The object of the study is the island of Yermakov with a total area of 2334 hectares, which is part of the Danube Biosphere Reserve. The aim of scientific research was to evaluate the methods of restoration (renaturalization) of the ecosystems of the Danube Delta using the example of the Yermakov Island and to develop recommendations for the optimal use of the island's ecosystem. The study of flora and fauna was carried out in accordance with the generally accepted methods of geobotanical, hydrobiological, ichthyological, herpetological and ornithological studies. In the framework of the research, the past and present condition of the Yermakov Island was assessed, the changes in the ecosystem of the island after renaturalization were studied, namely after implementation in 2009-2011. The conducted studies confirmed the positive response of the island's ecosystem to the restoration measures. It manifests itself in increasing landscape and biological diversity, increasing ecosystem productivity, improving the habitat of many species of flora and fauna, in particular spawning, colonial settlements of birds, as well as places for their rest and feeding during wintering, migrations etc. After watering the island, its solonetization stopped, favorable conditions were created for the growth and feeding of juvenile fish, the species composition of Red Book birds increased by 22 species, and nesting birds by 30 species. The results obtained are used by the tenant of the island of the LLC "Yermak" and other stakeholders, local authorities, research institutions and so on.
