The methods of studying biology and chemistry on a competen?e basis have been theoretically worked out and practically implemented, which is a priority trend in modern education; The main didactic features of the competence-based approach in comparison with the traditional (knowledge and skills) are clarified and generalized in groups such as follows: the purpose of education, the content of education, the educational process, the role of teacher, the role of student; the essence and component content of the subject competence; opportunities and conditions for the implementation of competence-oriented teaching biology and chemistry; the content of the components of the subject competence in chemistry and biology is revealed; the essence of cross-cutting content lines of the course, determined in the updated chemistry and biology curriculum, is substantiated; Reserves of educational content on their implementation are opened; pedagogical expediency of the proposed content of the cross-cutting content lines of chemistry and biology as a means of implementing a competence-based approach is experimentally proved. It is established that the effectiveness of their implementation can be provided with a certain direction of the content of separate issues of the curriculum, rather than its extension, as well as the establishment of the internal and intersubject content integration; The new structure of the calendar-thematic plan on chemistry and biology has been substantiated and developed on a competence basis, and the constructive influence of such planning on the systematic formation of students' competences has been proved. Distribution of requirements to the expected results of students' educational activity by the components of the competence simplifies the monitoring and control of this activity; the didactic functions of the synchronistic table "Outstanding discoveries in the natural sciences", the content and structure of the teaching tasks on chemistry on the basis of the synchronic table are substantiated, and the correspondence of the developed training tasks based on the synchronic table to the requirements for competence-oriented tasks, their availability for students are determined; it is proved that the use of modern teaching methods (modeling, method of projects, etc.), forms of organization of learning (in the hierarchy of which the group forms of work dominate), the combination of a school textbook with modern information and communication technologies (ICT) in the educational process, contribute to the achievement of the expected results by training -cognitive activity of students. The results of the study are realized in the manuscripts of 2 methodical manuals: "Teaching biology of pupils in the primary school" and "Teaching chemistry of secondary school pupils", in the final scientific report.
