The subject of the study constitute Lower Paleolithic sites (from 0.4 to 1.2 million years) in the totality of evidences of the early man activities and data that enable reconstruction the past environment. We are dealing with the circumstances of the initial peopling of the North-Western Eurasia and the reconstruction of the migration routes of early hominids from Africa to Europe. The main applied task of the project is the study of earlier discovered sites and prospecting for the new Lower Paleolithic localities in the valleys of Southern Bug, Smotrich, Dniester, Dnieper, Severski Donets. In order to collect samples for archaeological and natural science analysis, excavations in western Ukraine (Medzhibozh 1) and prospecting work in the north of Kharkiv region were carried out. The materials found during these works and the collections of artifacts from Eastern Carpathians were studied. New data on paleomagnetic, petromagnetic and ESR analysis of ancient sites of Southern Bug valley were obtained; the processing of paleontological materials was conducted. New data on the composition of the fauna was obtained. For the first time in Ukraine, were revealed the probable remains of an ancient man of 0.4 million years old.
