Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology popup.description2 A new marker system was developed and tested to assess the impact of carcinogenic environmental factors on the organism. For the first time in patients with benign breast disease, has been shown the presence of significant violations of oxidative metabolism associated with the simultaneous increase in the level of free radicals and the imbalance in the activity of antioxidant enzymes. The activation of free radical processes (increase of the concentration of superoxide anion radical in lymphocytes, the prooxidant-antioxidant ratio in the blood by 1.7-fold), while simultaneously reducing the activity of catalase (1,3-fold) and 2-fold increase of the superoxide dismutase activity, was accompanied by 2-fold increase in the level of the early marker - oxidation of proteins, indicating the development of oxidative stress. The possibility of using the melanin-glucan complex as a regulator of free radical homeostasis has been experimentally proved: it significantly reduces the anti-antioxidant ratio, the intensity of lipid peroxidation (32-24%, p?0.05) in the blood and the level of apoptosis in lymphocytes (by 50%). and increases the level of SH-groups in the blood of rats treated with nitrogen oxides and ionizing radiation. The use of the melanin-glucan complex in vitro inhibited the production of total free radicals and reduced the 3.8-fold increase in the level of chromosomal aberrations induced by X-ray irradiation in lymphocytes of patients with benign breast disease.
