The purpose of the study is theoretical substantiation and development of scientific methodological and teaching-methodological support for the education of children with violations of cognitive development. The main tasks that were solved by the department's scientists in 2018 were: 1. To carry out theoretical substantiation of the psychological and pedagogical principles of teaching children with violations of cognitive development. 2. To develop the standardization of the content of education for students with violations of cognitive development in a competency-based approach. Methods of research: theoretical - analysis (logical, theoretical, comparative) of psychological and pedagogical literature for the disclosure of the essence and features of psychological and pedagogical principles of teaching children with violations of cognitive development and definition of basic concepts; educational-didactic literature related to the education of children in pre-school educational institutions, elementary and primary schools in Ukraine and abroad; empirical - psychological and pedagogical observation, questioning, testing, analysis of pupils' works and educational-methodical documentation, psychological and pedagogical experiment; mathematical and statistical methods of data processing; interpretive methods - quantitative and qualitative scientific analysis of the obtained results. As a result of the research: foreign experience was analyzed in relation to the problem of general condition and general tendencies of the development of education of people with special educational needs; the necessity of in-depth study of the transformations of the foreign school, which is largely due to the urgent requirement of time - to reach the highest world level of development of science and technology, and also that the Ukrainian school has returned to the ideas of humanization and democratization of educational process, cooperation, development of innovation activities in solving educational tasks, finding new forms of interaction between a teacher and a student; it is proved that for Ukraine to update the education system, to ensure its compliance with the most developed models and standards, the launch of structural reforms is the key to a stable evolution of the state, a determining factor for the development of an enlightened nation and the emergence of an active civil society; It is analyzed what steps have been made in the direction of reforming the educational industry, which make the latter capable not only of perceiving innovative trends from the side of society, but also of seeing this external action by internal needs and capabilities. These internal needs play a decisive role in the development and consolidation of innovative trends in Ukrainian education; it is proved that the formation of key competencies in children with cognitive impairment is a prerequisite for their social integration, the ability to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in practical life. This can only be achieved if the cognitive students are formed; emotional and value; activity components of competence, namely: reorientation from the process to the result of education in the activity dimension; shifting the emphasis on the accumulation of normatively defined knowledge, skills and skills for the formation and development of students with cognitive impairments ability to practically act, apply the experience gained in specific situations; development of cognitive, emotional and volitional spheres, motivation of self-regulation, speech activity. The degree of implementation: the scientific results of the study are presented in the products created (monograph - 1; manual - 2; teaching aids - 2; a set of correction-development programs for grades 1-4 for special classes for children with mental retardation of institutions of general secondary education - 1). Developed a set of correctional and developmental programs for grades 1-4 for special classes for children with mental retardation of institutions of general secondary education recognized as being relevant to modern pedagogical technologies and requirements for educational programs, as evidenced by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine issued stamps (Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine No. 808 dated July 25, 2018). Prepared products were made public during speeches and reports on scientific and practical events of various levels, as well as during lectures on advanced training courses for educational, pedagogical and scientific-pedagogical workers of educational institutions. Recommendations on the use of the results of work: the obtained scientific results and practical psychological and pedagogical technologies can be used: during further scientific research on special psychology and correctional pedagogy: during the development of normative-legal, program, educational and methodological support for the education of children with violations of cognitive development; during the preparation of courses for lectures, textbooks and manuals for students of pedagogical specialties; when lecturing students to the courses of advanced training of educational institutions working with children with violations of cognitive development.
