The purpose of the work is to analyze existing international and regional rules and standards for amber grading, to work-out the national regulatory document "Amber. General technical conditions" which is harmonized with the requirements of the world market of amber, international standards in the field of gemology and jewelry and modern scientific achievements. Research methods include analysis of legislative and regulatory acts, standards, technical conditions, literary sources and the results of their practical use; development on the basis of the results of this analysis of the first, second and final versions of the project of national standard for general technical conditions for amber in raw materials. The project of the national normative document DSTU XXXX: 201Х "Amber in raw materials. General specifications" has been developed. The final version of the Standard project has been agreed with the Technical Committee for Standardization (TC 186 "Jewelery industry"), the file has been sent to the National Standardization Center for acceptance. The Standard establishes the terms and definitions of the concepts indicated by them, the basic principles for the classification of amber in raw materials and the basic requirements for its storage, transportation, labeling, packaging, control and acceptance. The Standard covers to amber in raw materials (amber, cleared of sandy clay and other impurities, washed, dried, completely or partially coated with an oxide layer, which is a succinate, a type of fossil resin), and does not extend to other types of fossil resins and processed amber. Implementation of the Standart will contribute to ensuring the application of the rules and procedures of the nation rights and interests, regulated by this Standard, represented by exploration, mining, processing enterprises, expert organizations, the State Fund for Precious Metals and Precious Stones of Ukraine, interested authorities, as well as the rights and interests of producers, subsoil users and other subjects of the amber industry.
