The growth of the concentration of heavy metals downstream and exceeding their maximum permissible values in water and bottom sediments have been established. It is proved that aquatic macrophytes are able to accumulate and concentrate heavy metals. The increased content of heavy metals in tissues of different species of fish is determined. Numerous local areas of oil pollution of water and areas with high content of petroleum products in the bottom sediments have been identified. In some points of the reservoir, high levels of anionic surfactants and phenolic compounds have been identified. The areas with the highest toxicity of water and bottom sediments of Kaniv reservoir within the boundaries of Kyiv have been established by the method of biotesting.
