In its framework, it is shown that for different values of controlling parameters the two combustion modes are possible: on a traveling autowave and a wave supported by neutrons from an external source. The moderation theory of neutrons, including the temperature of the medium, are developed. Theoretical expressions for the neutron spectra were used to calculate neutron spectra in hydrogen and uranium-carbon media. For various types of reactor fuel, possible temperature blow up regimes have been identified. Promising epithermal wave nuclear reactor can be considered dispersion fuel with ceramic fuel in a graphite matrix, spherical fuel rods and cermets. Modeling of epithermal wave combustion of a uranium-plutonium fissile medium lasting 150 days was carried out for the first time. The dynamics of wave combustion at various powers of an external neutron source was studied. The principal design of an experimental epithermal wave nuclear reactor was developed.
