Particular attention was paid to the stacking interaction, the causes of its occurrence and factors affecting its characteristics. An analysis of a number of polymorphic modifications of organic compounds has been carried out. It is established that the reason for the polymorphism phenomenon in most cases is the variability of weak intermolecular interactions. A new approach to studying the crystallization process as a supramolecular reaction, which can give a product of kinetic or thermodynamic control, and may occur under the action of a catalyst, is proposed. It is proposed a criterion for the separation of mixed crystals into solvates and co-crystals. It is shown that the co-crystal formation may be caused by the peculiarities of crystal structure.
