The purpose of the work is to establish new physical principles and experimental methods for increasing the efficiency of generation and control of sources of droplet and highly ionized plasma flows on the basis of a vacuum arc discharge with an evaporating anode. The results of experimental studies of ignition conditions and working parameters of a non-independent arc discharge in vapor of monocrystalline zirconium are presented in the work. The method and the method of "gas ignition" of the discharge are developed. The main characteristics of the stable existing arc discharge in vapor of zirconium in a vacuum are studied. The influence of external magnetic field on the main characteristics of discharge is investigated. The value of the required minimum discharge power, provided that it is stable, is determined. The value of the potential of an isolated electric probe in different discharge modes and other characteristics is established. The main characteristics of the plasma arc discharge flows generated in zirconium vapor and the zirconium smelting on dielectric substrates were obtained.
