The purpose of the work is the development of theoretical foundations and new methods of research and analysis of nonlinear properties of composite and functionally gradient materials and the strength of structural elements under the influence of static and dynamic loads. Research methods - theoretical methods of homogenization of nonlinear mechanical properties of composite materials, computer methods for calculating the parameters of composite materials. For orthogonally reinforced composites with a metal matrix, a numerical procedure for determining parameters in the criterion of plasticity based on the home-made mechanical properties of the matrix and fibers has been developed. The transition to the plastic state is fixed on the basis of the finite-element analysis of the stress distribution within the minimum representative volume of the composite structure. A new procedure for simulating the periodicity conditions for a representative volume with a homogeneous average stress state of a composite is proposed. A numerical method for calculating the effective elastic properties of woven composites is developed, using a two-level approach to the problem of all-reduction. The numerical technique of obtaining anisotropic viscoelastic properties of fiberglass, which is an orthogonally reinforced composite material, is described, with available isotropic elastic properties of glass fibers and isotropic viscoelastic properties of an epoxy matrix.
