Research object - pedagogical ideas and system of education of Ukraine in ХІХ of -ХХ century. Research methods: searching-bibliographic, historic and comparative, historic and retrospective, structural and genetic, personality and bibliographic, paradigmatic. The contribution of Nezhin higher school into development of pedagogical science of Ukraine is presented in different periods of its existence : 1 - 1805-1875 (Gymnasium of higher sciences of count Besborod’ko, physico-mathematical and law lyceums); ІІ - 1875-1920 (historico-philological institute); ІІІ - 1920-1991 (soviet period); ІV - a period of revival of Ukraine ( from 1991 up to present time). Pedagogical heritage of the prominent Ukrainian educationalist Sofia Rusova is analyzed . She is distinguished for the basic ideas in the development of the new Ukrainian school: nationalization of the system of education, formation in children and young people of national consciousness, self-esteem, dignity; intensive individualization of educational process with an aim of developing creative abilities of pupils; socialization as forming readiness for dignified life in society; relying on labor principle in education, deep psychological analysis of educational process. Development of pedagogical innovations as evolution of historic and pedagogical process is analyzed. The historiography analysis of pedagogical personalities is carried out in dissertation researches of Ukraine in the years of independence. Approaches of Ukrainian pedagogy to formation of creative personality are revealed. The exceptional role of V.О.Suhomlynski in substantiating the ways of forming creative personality is stressed.
