The main changes in the molecular structure are resulted in the heterolysis of C-O and C-C bonds, the formation of volatile products and potassium humates - the precursors of the secondary porous framework. The supramolecular structure changes at 400-650°C due to the disordering of the polyrenes and their "crosslinking" of the Car-Car bonds into the polyarylene framework. The coal rank growth was found to increase the AC yield from 49.9% to 82.8% and to decrease the specific surface area from 1580 m2/g to 320 m2/g and to change pore size distributions. Increasing temperature promotes the subnanopores formation being limited by the KOH diffusion, and their subsequent transformations form the AC final nanoporous structure.
