Registration Date 29-01-2020 Organization Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics NASU popup.description2 To determine the participation of the antioxidant system of chloroplasts in the regulation of flag leaf aging, we studied the ontogenetic dynamics of indices of the photosynthetic apparatus state and the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and ascorbate peroxidase (APO) in chloroplasts of modern varieties of winter wheat under optimal irrigation and under the effect of short-term soil drought at anthesis. It was established that drought caused an increase in the activity of antioxidant enzymes in both varieties - the drought-resistant Podolyanka and the less resistant Natalka. In the first of them, the decrease in the intensity of photosynthesis under drought was less, and the duration of the functioning of the flag-leave practically did not differ from the control. In the second variety, an increase in the activity of antioxidant enzymes was accompanied by a significant decrease in photosynthetic activity, followed by the induction of premature aging and dying of the leaf lamina. In field experiments, the dynamics of the photosynthetic apparatus development were studied in connection with the yield of modern winter wheat varieties Smuhlianka, Natalka, Astarta and Podilska Nyva in conditions of natural drought during the reproductive period of vegetation. It was established that the highly productive varieties of winter wheat Astarta and Podilska Nyva differed from the high-protein variety Natalka in greater grain productivity, leaf area index of crops, dry matter mass of the aboveground parts of plants with 1 m2 of soil and chlorophyll content in the leaves. It was established that treatment of plants with a complex of carboxylates with fungicidal action contributed to an increase in the dry matter mass of green leaves and the aboveground parts of plants at the late stages of ontogenesis, but did not affect grain productivity. A close positive relationship was revealed between the increase in the duration of the functioning of the assimilation surface of crops during the reproductive period and the productivity of winter wheat.
