New chiral components (CCs) of the short-pitch FLC materials were synthesized. Effect of lateral fluorine substitution on helical twisting ability of the new CCs and phases of the FLC compositions is studied. For model induced FLCs composed of achiral LC host and different concentrations of CC, dielectric spectra and base parameters were measured. With the use of these data, elastic constant of the helix twisting (Kh) as a function of CC concentration was determined. It is found that: - introduction of lateral fluorine atoms at 2,2''- and 2',3'-positions of terphenyl rigid core of ((S)-1-oxo-1-(((R)-1,1,1-trifluoroalkan-2-yl)¬oxy)propan-2-yl)-[1,1':4',1''-terphenyl]-4,4''-dicrboxylate molecules does not result in considerable lowering of melting points but rather has negative effect on SmC*phase thermal stability and twisting ability of the CCs; - for CC concentrations in the range of 5 mol. % through 18 mol. %, the Kh decreases almost twice; average Kh value at 25 ºC (2,86•10–12 N) is by an order less than that reported in literature (2,4•10–11 N).
