The purpose of the work is to summarize the existing views of scientists on the theory and practice of forming an institutional environment for sustainable development of rural territories, aimed at solving organizational, legal, socio-economic and environmental problems. The fundamental principles of regional economics, institutionalism and economic theory are the methodological basis. The research is based on the principles of systematic approach, statistical and monographic analysis and logic-heuristic methods. The mechanism of institutional support for the sustainable development of rural areas should be based on a systematic approach to building governance, taking into account the best practices of domestic and international experience. The methodology for planning sustainable rural development is based on the principles of competitiveness of economic entities, gender equality of employment in rural areas, interaction of state structures with self-government bodies and public organizations, development of human capital by providing the population with guarantees of access to education in the context of implementing the reform. The scientific and applied provisions and methodological bases are developed: development of entrepreneurship and small forms of farming in the countryside; developing an integrated sustainable rural development plan for the identified region; the formation and implementation of conservation measures and the use of alternative energy sources in the context of sustainable rural development; formation of educational management bodies in integrated territorial communities in the context of sustainable rural development; rural territories of Ukraine by the level of development of their infrastructure in four components.
