Colicin is a natural bacterial protein with a species-specific but very strong antibacterial activity that allows to destroy pathogenic strains of Escherichia coli. Transgenic plants of a number of edible species such as lettuce (Lactuca sativa), carrots (Daucus carota), broccoli cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. Italica) containing the colicin gene were obtained. The possibility of accumulation of recombinant antibacterial protein colicin in biotechnological plants was demonstrated and the bactericidal activity of these plants was confirmed in tests with the E. coli XL1-Blue laboratory strain. Such biotechnological plants can be used as an alternative to antibiotics to prevent the occurrence of acute intestinal infections caused by these pathogenic E. coli strains in humans and farm animals. The project implementation also optimized the conditions of secondary metabolites accumulation for a number of medicinal plants. A 50% increase in the content of biologically active substances - hypercine in Hypericum perloratum plants cultivated in vitro under the influence of gaseous methyl jasmonate is shown. A comparative determination of the effectiveness of X-ray and UV radiation to stimulate the synthesis of pharmaceutically important secondary metabolites in medicinal herbs such as Chamomilla recutita and Hypericum perloratum was performed. For the first time, morphophysiological and metabolic features of the response of different varieties of chamomile to UV-C and X-ray irradiation were studied, their relation to the genetic polymorphism of the species and the influence of these stress factors on the synthesis of pharmaceutically valuable secondary metabolites were established. The bioactivity of the flavonoid-containing extract from transgenic A. tileii roots and the presence of anti-inflammatory properties were also investigated.
