It was shown that the process takes place at a contact time of 1-2 sec. A method for lactide producing comprising a one-step catalytic conversion of alkyl lactates to lactide at elevated temperature in a flow mode is proposed. What is new is that the condensation process of alkyl lactate vapors is carried out without carrier gas at 240–270 °C over solid TiO2 / SiO2 and SnO2 / SiO2 catalysts under reduced pressure (100-150 mbar), which is created by means of a vacuum pump.
