The experience of libraries as a part of the world information infrastructure is generalized, the role and place of libraries in the information society are defined and substantiated. Innovation has been found to be an integral part of library activities. Today the tasks and functions of libraries are being transformed, which depend on the social order of society, are being updated. The activities of the public library in the modern information society are based on a combination of traditional and innovative areas of work, which ensures the competitiveness of libraries and the services they provide among other components of the information space, helps to fulfill the main historical mission - to preserve the cultural heritage of mankind and meet the information needs of society and the individual. Emphasis is placed on the activities of libraries to preserve the national cultural heritage through the digitization of documentary collections; on the organization of providing users with access to information of the authorities of Ukraine, the introduction of e-government services in libraries. Given the growing role of information, information technology, identified an urgent need to form an information-literate society with a high level of media and information culture and identified the role of libraries in this process. The role of social networks, the importance of their effective use in the work of libraries to attract a wider audience of virtual users. It is recommended to create an information system using a chatbot. The results of the study have both theoretical and practical application. Theoretical positions, observations and conclusions can be used in the process of further study of the transformational processes of modern society.
