The purpose of the work is to find convenient methods for the synthesis of functionalized 3-formylchromones, to establish patterns of influence of the position and electronic nature of substituents on the properties of their complexes with REE ions in order to obtain effective luminescent materials. The purpose of this work also is to improve the known and develop new methods for the synthesis of derivatives of chromone and coumarin, to study their effects. Research methods are 1H NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, polarization thermomicroscopy, spectrophotometry, complexometric titration, luminescence spectroscopy. A method for the synthesis of 6-substituted 3-formylchromones has been developed, characterized in that the substituents (4-heptyloxybenzoyl and nitro groups) are introduced into the starting 2-hydroxy-acetophenone and only after that the corresponding 3-formylchromones are obtained by the Vilsmeier reaction. The advantage of the proposed approach is explained by the possibility of easy variation of substituents and the availability of starting compounds, while the introduction of substituents in the benzene ring of 3-formylchromones is difficult or almost impossible. In order to study the effect of the position of substituents in the benzene cycle of 3-formylchromone on the luminescent properties of their complexes with lanthanides, 6 - (4-alkoxybenzoyloxy) 3-formylchromones were synthesized, the corresponding complexes of which with Eu (III) ions show record photoluminescence intensity. In the case of complex formation with Tb (III), the opposite effect is observed - the Ilum of the complex with the substituent in position 6 is higher than in position 7.
