V. Ya. Yuriev popup.description2 Object: millet breeding. Purpose: to create a grain millet variety with high yield capacity, high cold tolerance, resistance to smut, high technological and biochemical indicators of grain, and adaptability to various growing conditions. Methods: field (visual); laboratory (measuring and weighing); biochemical; statistical. Results: A possibility of obtaining drought-resistant and cold-tolerant forms, which combine high plant performance with high quality indices, was proven. In 2019, five lines (L 05-3560, L 11-5613, L 05-3502, L 08-3728, and L 09-4053), which combine high yields with high cold tolerance (7 points) and drought resistance (7 points), large grains (1000-grain weight 7.96 - 8.40 g), high groats output (81.6 - 83.2%), high starch (74-77% ) and carotenoid (6.0–7.9 mg/kg) contents, and resistance to smut, were selected and transferred to the NCPGRU. Millet variety Peremozhne giving a high yield (by 0.42-0.54 t/ha than that from the check variety), with increased cold tolerance, resistance to smut, high technological and biochemical indicators of grain (hull content 15.4– 17.9%, groats output 81.7–82.3%, carotenoid content 6.72–7.68 mg/kg, protein content 13.4–14.1%) was submitted for the qualifying examination. As of 2020, the Register of Plants Varieties Suitable for Cultivation in Ukraine included 10 millet varieties bred at the PPI nd.a. VYa Yuriev NAAS, five of which were added during the last three years. Over the reporting period, the area of seed crops amounted to 83.7 hectares; 81.89 tons of seeds were sold. Due to selling scientific and technical products, the Institute’s special fund got 1,998,300 UAH. The estimated cost of the work in accordance with the calendar plan and in agreement with the main institution for 2019-2020 is 456,300 UAH, ie 4.38 UAH per 1 UAH from state funds was earned, indicating the breeding effectiveness within the project Product Description popup.authors Horlachova Olha V.
