In contrast the overexpression of PEX11 gene had no impact on ethanol production from xylose. The knock out of PEX11 gene led to increased size of peroxisomes during growth in the medium with xylose, in contrast the overexpression of PEX11 led to a higher number of small peroxisomes. Overexpression of RKI1 gene had no impact on ethanol production from xylose or glucose during high-temperature alcoholic fermentation. Overexpression of RPE1 also did not result in increased ethanol production from xylose. Therefore, the enzymes involved in the non-oxidative part of pentose phosphate pathway are not so important for xylose alcoholic fermentation in contrast to key enzymes of oxidative part of pentose phosphate pathway, transketolase and transaldolase.
