The purpose of the study - to establish the prevalence of acromegaly among the population of Kharkiv, to determine the feasibility of screening for acromegaly among the population; development of an algorithm for managing patients selected for further examination on the basis of screening; determination of clinical and genetic markers of predisposition to the development of acromegaly. Research methods - clinical, biochemical, enzyme-linked immunosorbent, instrumental, statistical, genealogical, genetic. The frequency of hormonally active tumors of the pituitary gland (isolated prolactinoma and somatotropinoma) detected during screening is 0.15% per 1000 examined patients. The high percentage of detected orphan pathology indicates the effectiveness of the proposed screening technique and the feasibility of its implementation in high-risk groups. This allows you to verify the diagnosis in the early stages of the disease and prescribe timely pathogenetic treatment. Sexual dimorphism of the clinical course of acromegaly is manifested at a young age at the time of manifestation of the disease, high secretory activity of STG-secretory pituitary adenoma, mass effect, symptoms of hypopituitary syndrome and resistance to treatment in men. Secretory and proliferative activity of STG-secreting pituitary adenoma is associated with the age of the patient at the time of manifestation of acromegaly.  Genetic analysis determined the compliance of acromegaly inheritance with the parameters of D. Falconer’s polygenic model. The genetic component of susceptibility to the disease is 92.20%. Risk factors for acromegaly are hereditary burden of diseases of the musculoskeletal system and various malignant neoplasms. Field of application - health care.
