Object of research: selection and seed production of millet varieties, sources of economically valuable traits, pathogens of seedlings and their differentiators. Purpose: to improve the methods of evaluation of the source material and to create high-yielding, patentable varieties of millet with complex resistance to smut and melanosis, high technological qualities of grain, adapted to the conditions of Ukraine. Research methods: field, laboratory, statistical. The main results of the study: improved methods for estimating the shape of millet grains using technical devices by using a special magnifier with a measuring scale and a tablet to obtain high-quality and accurate images of grains in three dimensions on a single scale, which improved the quality of research. The variety of millet Kesh was submitted to the State Scientific and Technical Examination (application № 20014001 dated November 9, 2020). The application № u2020 08086 from 17.12.2020 for the patent "Method of evaluation and selection of the source material of millet on the basis of the shape of the grain".
