The subject of the analysis is the patterns of development and functioning of the Ukrainian language in a multi-cultural society. The purpose is to find out the patterns of development and functioning of the Ukrainian language in the educational and scientific space. The scientific novelty of the research is due to the application of an integrated (philosophical, aesthetic, ethnic and cultural, historical) approach to the study of the Ukrainian language. The declared direction of the department's work covers a lot of complex issues that require solution, since language is a product of a long historical development of a people, in the emergence, formation and functioning of which there are certain patterns. The following conceptual approaches are involved in the research work of the department: deep mastery of the theoretical issues of the structure of the modern Ukrainian literary language at all levels (together with the data of dialectology), which show our language as a system of systems that has been formed over a long period of its functioning; the formation of skills to convey the knowledge gained to the consciousness of students of schools of various types by including in the educational process (lectures, seminars, practical) advanced pedagogical techologies that can be inherited by students in subsequent pedagogical work; formation of skills and abilities to conduct scientific and linguistic research in the field of studying the current state of the Ukrainian language and its history.
