A method for measuring the output characteristics of a high-voltage pulse current generator has been developed. The amplitude, current rising time, shape and duration of the current pulse, inductance of the discharge circuit was measured; pulse width modulator (PWM), transistor and all other circuits and components of PCG was checked for correct operation and interaction with each other. Diagnosis showed compliance with the passport data of the charge voltage and energy in the pulse. The lack of a reliable electrical contact in one of the terminals of the capacitor and the breakdown of the insulation in the positive charging cable of the capacitor bank on the structural elements, could cause a significant deviation from the passport data of the PCG output frequency. Elimination of this fault allowed to stabilize the output frequency. Failure of the MY2N-J relay in the power supply circuit of the PWM inverter current control device did not allow to supply power to this device, so the PCG was not started.
